10 Unique Company Perks that Win Top Talent

By John Ternieden - February 21st, 2019
Recruiting Industry

“Show me the money!” The popular exchange between Tom Cruise and Cuba Gooding Jr. was once an accurate reflection of all that mattered in business. For a long time, the best way to attract top talent was to write a bigger paycheck.

Gone are those days.

According to Business Insider, the average American spends 90,000 hours at work over their lifetime. That’s just over 10 years of straight working. So even if the money is right, if people don’t enjoy where they work, they won’t last long.

To meet this growing need, employers are now attracting top talent with perks and benefits.

Are you looking to transition to a new job? Check out what these forward-thinking companies are doing to get your attention.

  1. Adobe: Who wouldn’t want more time off? Especially during the holidays or when the weather is at its best. Adobe shuts down for one week in December and one week over the summer.
  2. Airbnb: Do you like to travel? Airbnb employees are given an annual stipend to travel and stay in an Airbnb listing anywhere in the world.
  3. Burton: It must be hard to make and sell snowboards, only to be stuck inside when the snow falls. Burton’s solution? Give employees season passes and snow days to enjoy the massive snowfalls.
  4.  Eventbrite: Just because you can’t build an onsite gym, doesn’t mean you can’t encourage and support your employees’ efforts to live healthier lives. Eventbrite offers on-site yoga and catered lunches.
  5. Google: It’s not surprising Google would make this list, given its reputation for being on the cutting edge. Along with on-site chefs and slides to get around the office, Google employees can also enjoy onsite massage therapists, gyms, and fun collaborative spaces.
  6. Netflix: Are you a new parent? Netflix offers its employees one paid year of parental leave and the opportunity to work part-time. Did we mention free lunches?
  7. SC Johnson & Son: Do you struggle to get everything done in a day. It can be frustrating when all the shops you need to visit close just as you get out of work. SC Johnson came up with an interesting solution. It has concierges that will do your daily tasks, like taking your car for an oil change, buying groceries or even washing your car.
  8. Southwest: Want to travel for free? Who doesn’t! Southwest employees can travel on Southwest for free. Even better, they can pass those benefits onto their eligible dependents.
  9. Starbucks: Many companies recognized the value of investing in their employees. Starbucks is a great example. Employees can receive full tuition reimbursement for an online bachelor’s degree from Arizona State University.
  10. Walt Disney Company: This one seems obvious but imagine how much fun you’d have (and how much money you could save) with free admission to Disney parks for yourself, family, and friends.
So, if you’re looking for a new job, don’t just focus on the paycheck. There are lots of great perks and benefits to be had.
